The Bury Times reported: -
Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ingham of 2, Claybank Street, Heywood have received official intimitation that their son, Lance-Corporal William S. Ingham, Lancashire Fusiliers, was killed in action on July 31st. He was 23 years old. Previous to enlisting in September 1914 he was employed as a big piecer at the Plum Mill. He was connected with the Bury New Road United Methodist Church.
William Ingham has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
