9877 L/Corporal Walter Taylor, DCM.

2nd Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Awarded the D.C.M. in the London Gazette of 3 June 1915. Taylor was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.

Killed in action 4 November 1914.

This is a rare East African award, awarded posthumously.

The citation for the D.C.M. published in the London Gazette reads, "For gallant conduct on 4 November, 1914, during the attack on Tanga (East Africa), and for general good work performed under a heavy fire".
