12569 Private Edward Marks, DCM.
1st Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. Awarded the D.C.M. in
the London Gazette of 15 March 1916. Marks was a native of Burnley, Lancashire.
The citation for the D.C.M. published in the London Gazette reads, "For
conspicuous gallantry in voluntarily bringing up ammunition under heavy shell
fire, and in voluntarily leaving his dug-out on two occasions, during a heavy
bombardment, to dig out men who had been buried. He set a fine example of courage."
