It was reported that he received the Military Medal for, "For bravery and devotion to duty in bringing in severely wounded men through an heavy artillery barrage during the night, and then working under difficult conditions after the dressing stations had been burnt out and completely ruined by enemy guns, near Ypres, September, 1918".
